The Real Treasure

As a little children, I had been finding my joy in my collections of toys. Then as I grew up to a teenager, finding my joy in collections of comic books, game cards collection. Then in adulthood, joy in accumulation of wealth/possessions. At first glance, it seems much of joy to be able to accumulate all this things, but we didn't realised that we had became slaves to things that we are gathering. Take example of a young man, whom had committed to purchase a luxury car with a loan that he commits to pay for the next 10 years. He didn't just commit to pay the monthly commitment of the car loan amount, he also unknowingly commit his time/money to maintain the car to keep it clean, polished nicely, servicing and sometimes to repair it due to accidents or car parts worn out. As it turns out, this man had made himself a slave to this purchase of luxury car.

We lived in a society that sometimes took pride in the things we possess, to impress other people of the belongings we had or to to feed our lust of our eye in all this shinning things. If we are not guarded in such, we may put ourself in much pressure to increase our earnings and sometimes fall into other sins such as unethical way of making money to have the ability to pay for those things or sometimes we end up causing our family/friends to pay for the things we committed. The bible clearly states that in 1 John 2:15-17, "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever." The scriptures clearly warn us not to love the world or the things in the world because the worldly treasures are temporal and headed to destruction. In Proverbs 28:20, "A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.", we are warned not to be eager to get rich but to depend on God's timing to provide for our needs.

As I myself had experiencing my last hour of life, I found that what I truly need is very little, I am content with a roof over my head, clothes to wear, a job that brings food to the table, and being in the presence of the people whom love God. Non of the possessions brings me joy but the love of God and His law(Ecc 12:13). After all, when any of us die, not a single possession in the world can be brought together with us(1 Tim 6:6-10). Therefore, my dear ones, lets us be wise in where to lay our treasure as it was written in Matt 6:19-21"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." And lastly, as Psalm 73:25-27 and in 1 Tim 6:17 puts it, let us not bank our trust and our hope in perishable things of the world but to put all our trust and hope to the one whom has provided them and gave us the salvation of our life. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul?(Mark 8:36)
